On June 19th Hollow Trees Farm in Suffolk ran its 11th Food and Farming Student Day and feedback confirms it was the most successful yet! The day is a collaboration between Hollow Trees, Suffolk Agricultural Association and Easton & Otley College. Volunteers, from the food and farming industry deliver workshops to students aged 14 to 16 years from schools in Suffolk and bordering areas.
Students are timetabled to visit eight workshops, ranging from Machinery, Environment, Future of Farming, Cereals, Livestock, Field to Fork, Farm Retail and a Farm Think Tank. This year approximately 400 students enjoyed the hands on day, doing everything from making sausages, working on farm accounts, and watching sheep shearing. With so many ‘industry experts’ in one place, this year we commissioned a company to compile a film illustrating the vast range of careers in our industry. It is hoped the film will be a tool for anybody seeking food and farming career advice. Thanks go to our sponsors Chadacre Agricultural Trust and the army of volunteers who, once again, delivered such a successful day. 2019 Teacher Feedback “It was an extremely informative day and it was lovely to see our students so engaged.”
